A note about adoption
Are the children at Casa Hogar available for adoption?
Thank you so much for your interest in adopting a child in need.
Unfortunately, the children are not available for adoption. There are several reasons for this.
1) Many of the children have a living mother, father, or relative who sees Casa Hogar as almost a boarding school where there children are able to grow up and getting an education. They therefore don’t consider their children completely out of their lives even if they haven’t seen or heard from them in years.
2) Almost all of the children are of indian decent and speak an indian dialect, not Spanish, as their native language. In many of these dialects there is no word for adoption or even “forever”, leaving the understanding of even the concept of adoption foreign to them.
3) Adoption in Mexico is extremely difficult in respect to all of the red tape. Lack of clear publicized laws, applications, or regulations are just a few of the hurdles. We recently heard a statistic that there were only 13 adoptions of Mexican children to individuals in the United States in 2004. So, the Mexican Government makes it nearly impossible to adopt a child – especially in comparison to other countries like Korea and China.
The final example we have that shows how difficult it is to adopt a Mexican child is that of Casa Hogar’s directors, Carol Marin and Francisco Marin. More than ten years ago, a one-week-old baby arrived at Casa Hogar. Carol and Franciscol nursed him back to health and they decided to adopt him. Francisco is a Mexican Citizen and Carol an American legally living in Mexico. The adoption has been in process for over a decade without success.
In short, adoption is extremely difficult at best and the children living at Casa Hogar are not available for adoption.
However, we do know of one organization that does try and manage adoptions out of Mexico. Here is a link to their site: http://www.childrenshomeadopt.org/Mexico_Adoption.html
Thank you so very much. The compassion and love that would motivate you to inquire about adopting one of them is the hope materialized for these children and so many like them. We wish you the best of luck in your efforts to adopt a child in need.
