Warm Hearted ‘Strippers’ Cover Orphans

Warm Hearted Strippers

Volunteers JoAnn Mackno of Beacon Falls, left, and Doreen Hoyt of Monroe, members of a  quilting group called the ‘Saturday Strippers’, work on quilts at the Naugatuck Congregational Church in Naugatuck Tuesday night.  ‘Stripping’ is a technique of cutting fabric for quilting.  About 35 volunteers are making the quilts destined for an orphanage in Oaxaca, Mexico.  Each quilt has a picture of a child in the orphanage attached to it.  Naugatuck resident Bryan Nurnberger started an organization called ‘Simply Smiles’ after a trip to the orphanage.  Nurnberger and his friend Jen DeBisschop will depart for Mexico after worship services on Sunday in a school bus they are donating to the orphanage as well.  According to Peggy Dufresne, there are 80 people in the orphanage.  For information about the organization, go to www.Simplysmiles.org or call Nurnberger at 910-6209.
